 DAN Technology - ROBOTIC WORKCELLS

DAN is the world leader in robotic polishing systems and within this group there are more than 300 applications already developed and delivered to the market. Any operation that is done with a machine or manually using traditional abrasives may be automated using DAN Technology robotic systems.

DAN's systems are "turnkey" in that they are complete with everything needed for the operation of the equipment at the time of delivery and installation.

DAN robotic cells are being successfully utilized in the most challenging applications in the world including aircraft and marine propellers, decorative wood trim for luxury automobiles, aerospace window frames, fabrications, jewelry, etc.

DAN's promise is that with proper use our machines WILL NEVER DAMAGER YOUR PARTS.

  • Single Robotic Cells

DAN Technology has provided more robotic polishing and buffing machines than any other company in the world.

DAN Technology's special polishing and buffing units are UNIQUE to DAN, designed and built for DAN's exclusive use.

In most cases the units are fixed to the floor and the robot will take the working piece to these units, but in other cases the parts are loaded into a fixture for positioning and the special units are taken by the robot to work on the piece. In each case the controls are always the same and since we have the units that may be taken by the robot, where the robot and the fixture holding the part may move on a slide, it is possible for DAN to work on enormous parts. Depending on the conditions there is no actual limit to how large the parts may be.

  • Multiple Robotic Cells

In many cases it's more economical to include multiple robots within a single cell in order to share the work between two or more robots.

In this condition it may be the case that one robot will process with grit 1, then pass to another robot who will process with grit 2 and so on. In other cases one robot may work with small tools to work inside areas and the second robot may work with big tools to work outside areas. Other times one robot may belt polish while the second robot buffs the parts. As always the decision is based on what the most economical and flexible solution will be.

  • LEAN Manufacturing

In general DAN may produce cells that have a single robot or also multiple robots working together.

DAN has developed some robot cells that run the same parts all day and other cells that are able to operate with true one-piece-flow or with very small batches in machines.

Changeovers may be completely automatic or may be done manually in just a few minutes inside the cell. The ideas are to be flexible and to design the flow to fit the customer's requirements.

Some examples of Lean Manufacturing recently include cells delivered recently where there are 4 robots in one line that may take over a dozen different parts at the time coming from a foundry, where all the different parts are completely belted, completely buffed, washed, inspected and sent to plating all via incoming and outgoing conveyors, where a person never had to touch the pieces. Another cell for smaller volumes includes a single robot with the ability to run 4 different parts at the time to do buffing or satin finishing running hundreds of total parts over approximately 8 hours totally unattended.
